Instagram post 2191650182176423620_214460766 Marroni grown in Tuscany and pine nut, raisin and crispy rosemary chestnut flour castagnaccio flatcake made in one of Florence’s best bakeries (La Pagnotta)
Do you know the differences between chestnuts and marroni? Find out on our Gourmet Market Tour in Florence- while chilly outside, it’s one of my favorite times to food around town x seasonal treats with a fraction of the crowds. Link in bio or DM for more info! 🌰🇮🇹🍴#curiousappetite #foodtours
Instagram post 2190849129411450853_214460766 Taking a short-lived break from la cucina Italiana to the ever so pretty cucina persiana- and full advantage of the mega plethora of Persian food choices in LA (SF/Bay Area what’s wrong with you) and thanking my lucky stars for having been born into my idea of the best kind of privilege- i.e. into arguably 2 of the tastiest/historic cuisines in the world 🇮🇹🌹🇮🇷 Lovely feast @toranj_restaurant_la: buttery heart fluttering saffron and zingy barberry rice, succulent sumac snowed in kebab, dilly fava pilaf and oily roasted eggplant spread with minty fried shallot and strained whey goodness. Where’s your favo spot for Persian food in your neck of the woods? #curiousappetite #eaterLA
Instagram post 2189516565123744540_214460766 Amarena syrupy cherry and prized pistachio not from Bronte but from Stigliano, a tiny green/mountainous village nestled in “le dolomiti Lucane” in the Matera province in Southern Italy’s Basilicata- so basically mountain grown pistachios. Unlike Sicily’s volcanic grown Bronte pistachios which stretches centuries, the history of Stigliano’s pistachio production is a stone’s throw from the 90’s after a local farmer travels to Greece and with the consult of a respected agronomist in Athens decides to bring back pistachio plantings to cultivate in this gem of terroir. So while it might seem a bit cold for gelato in Florence, I suggest to keep devouring cones- you never know what little food for thought you’ll digest! This and more to expect from our gourmet tours in Florence (still 10% off bookings thru Dec 2nd using CURIOUSINFLORENCE10 at checkout via curiousappetitetravel.com)
Buona domenica a tutti! 🇮🇹🍦#curiousappetite #foodtours

Instagram post 2187261993403809673_214460766 my first for @sfchronicle wine! (online now and in print this Sunday Dec 1st) What a fun piece to write and research! (sorry, liver. take me back?) I’ve come to the conclusion there are some funky bubbles worth forgetting but there are those rather seek-worthy (like refreshing wild fruit/bit of body smooth skin contact bubbles made in the Dolomites by @cantinacosmesifurlani) for palate party foods like fatty pungent cheeses, pizzas spun from extra tangy fermented dough and other foods otherwise stubborn to harmonious wine pairings. Head to https://www.sfchronicle.com/foodandhome/wine/ for the piece + where to find the stuff and a whole Thanksgiving vino spread by absolutely fabulous writer/wine editor @esthermob. A mega thanks to all the pros who tolerated my barrage of questioning (and who you should be drinking at/from) @chillizabeth @minimowine @figandthistlemarket @engvinny @mrbrut @lasjaraswines @ericwareheim @pizzahacker @lesluneswine @biondivino @rachelgoldwoman
Happy Thanksgiving to all and hope you have something fun in your 🥂

Instagram post 2184432798545995767_214460766 Pardon the bad lighting but I had to interrupt with an honest photo of a delicious bowl of tortellini in brodo found @poesiarestaurantsf in the Castro. In my tortellini binging days in Bologna, I was told the true test to a genuine bowl of “turtlen” is how many can fit in a spoon (6). While these tasted similar to my favorite buttons back in Bologna, I asked the staff why supersized and they said something about American clientele being confused about pasta being so small. So I implore you fellow Americani to embrace the tiny tortellini because what is more fun than eating 6 pockets of pasta in each spoonful? Today’s the last day of Italian Cuisine Week in SF @italyinsanfran with various restaurants offering menus representing the decadent Emilia-Romagna, those of you in SF: have you been to any of these dinners? 🥄#curiousappetite #sanfrancisco
P.s. for more Italian culture in SF- there’s also been a mini Italian cinema festival this weekend at the Vogue Theatre info via cinemasf.com/vogue
Instagram post 2183709836104687162_214460766 Compromising between from scratch and convenience with these bags of cut veg which will become one of Tuscany’s epic comforting soups- one of the 12 million reasons I love the food markets in Florence/Italy in general! What’s one of the little things you love from the Sant’Ambrogio market in Florence? 🥕🥣#curiousappetite #foodtours
