For those of you following my blog for some time, it’s no secret one of my favorite Italian past times is the Aperitivo while rejecting the Aperitivo buffet. The ‘rona has taken a lot of things away from us, including the aperitivo buffet. Looks like there is a bright side after all. This post is a round-up of my personal picks in Florence doing unique (and affordable) food and drink programs/formulas (mostly outdoors all’aperto) for Aperitivo hour during this abnormal pandemic summer 2020. aperitivo in Florence
Man oh man, it’s been a painful few months knowing I had a very popular/read post just dying to be updated. Mostly, I wanted to update my article on Aperitivo in Florence because there were some spots that have gone horribly downhill and it took some personal visits to realize horrifically how disgusting they were in both terms of service and quality. It’s a real bummer when recommendations get outdated, usually due to a rise in popularity, If people catch on to a good place in Florence, it usually doesn’t stay secret for long (which should usually be a good thing!) Unless locales are prepared for the increased volume, they usually can’t keep up with providing consistent quality and service.

Last year, I discovered a pretty chic gourmet nook in Florence smack dab in the historical center yet in a little backstreet that the massive hoards would have difficulty in finding. Everybody wants “off-the-beaten-path in Florence” in one of the most heavily stomped cities in Europe. If there was a literal representation of a quality food & wine bar off the beaten path in Florence, it was Uscio e Bottega:. Continue Reading →
Florence works really hard to maintain a stellar eating scene. There are new foodie places popping up constantly and small wine bars on virtually every corner. Where quality usually rings in well, the service is something to be discovered. I love being a critic, like a lot of people do. More and more legal action is being threatened against bloggers and journalists for publicly expressing their critical opinion. Yes, we have officially lost our rights to free expression. I admit that I have essentially allowed myself to be bullied. However, if you are looking for reviews on the best places to eat and drink in Florence and don’t find them on my site or around my instagram feed, that probably means that they suck. In the last week in Florence, I have been overwhelmed by flavor. Overwhelmed by the beauty of my surroundings. I have decided, being in Seattle for the last several months was nothing but good. Now, I can appreciate my surroundings (and tastes) with a clean slate or yet- a fresh palate. It is good to take breaks from monotony. Think of places which have summer year round due to being near the equator, do you think people there appreciate the beach and sun as say those living in Germany?
Without further rambling, here are some new food findings I have discovered in Florence thus far: Continue Reading →
